Established in 2006, in Maputo, Mozambique the Forum for Former African Heads of State and Government, commonly known as the Africa Forum is essentially designed to support the implementation of the broad objectives of the African Union (AU) and African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), at national, sub-regional and regional levels.
Our Mission
Given the inputs as recorded during the meeting held in January 2006, as well as the higher purpose detailed earlier on in this document, the mission of the Forum is as follows:
We are a unique Forum with the relevant first-hand Afro-centric knowledge, expertise and experience that strives towards:
- Promoting and defending democratic governance, principles and values;
- Sustainable development;
- Peace, security and stability; and
- Supporting the AU and its NEPAD initiative in Africa.
Our Vision
During January 2006, the members of the Forum crafted a vision, namely: “Working towards a unique, united and strong Africa, through effective partnerships”: learning from the past to build a better future.”

To ensure that all Forum members are aligned to its mission and vision, it was resolved that members of the Forum should ensure that the following values are unconditionally supported and should form the basis for all their decisions.
